Which treaty signed in 1783 recognized American independence from Great Britain?

The story behind the answer

The Treaty of Paris signed in 1783 recognized American independence from Great Britain.

The treaty formally ended the American Revolutionary War between Great Britain and the United States. American negotiators Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, John Jay, and Henry Laurens concluded the agreement with British representatives in Paris. The preliminary articles were agreed in 1782, and the definitive treaty was signed on September 3, 1783.

Britain recognized the United States as a free, sovereign, and independent nation. The treaty also established boundaries reaching west to the Mississippi River, north to the Great Lakes, and south to Spanish Florida. The United States received fishing rights off Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.

The Treaty of Paris is often confused with the 1783 Treaty of Paris involving Britain and other European powers, because several agreements were signed in the same diplomatic settlement. It is also distinct from the Treaty of Ghent, which ended the War of 1812 in 1814. The 1783 treaty marked the international conclusion of the Revolution.
