Which treaty officially ended the American Revolutionary War, a conflict central to America250?

The story behind the answer

The Treaty of Paris (1783) officially ended the American Revolutionary War and recognized the United States as independent.

Representatives of Great Britain and the United States signed the treaty in Paris on September 3, 1783. Its first article stated that Britain recognized the former Thirteen Colonies as free, sovereign, and independent states. The agreement also established broad boundaries for the new nation, extending west to the Mississippi River and north toward British North America.

The treaty followed a preliminary peace agreement reached in 1782. The Continental Congress ratified it on January 14, 1784, in Annapolis, Maryland. The final ratified documents were exchanged in Paris on May 12, 1784.

Several other agreements involving France, Spain, and the Dutch Republic were signed around the same time and are collectively called the Peace of Paris. The specific Anglo-American agreement is the Treaty of Paris of 1783, not the similarly named 1763 treaty.
