What organization coordinates the national United States Semiquincentennial celebrations known as America250?

The story behind the answer

The United States Semiquincentennial Commission coordinates the national celebrations known as America250.

Congress created the commission in 2016 to promote and coordinate observances of the 250th anniversary of American independence. It works with federal agencies, states, communities, educational groups, historic sites, and private partners to develop a nationwide commemoration.

The commission is not the same organization that planned the United States Bicentennial in 1976. That earlier effort involved the American Revolution Bicentennial Commission and later the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration. The two commemorations are separated by fifty years and have different organizing bodies.

The commission uses America250 as its public campaign identity. Its work includes educational programming, historic preservation connections, volunteering initiatives, and national events. The organization’s central historical focus is the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
