Which train service links Zermatt and St. Moritz across the Swiss Alps?
Answer
Glacier Express
Answer
Glacier Express
The Glacier Express links Zermatt and St. Moritz across the Swiss Alps.
The service crosses Switzerland from the Matterhorn region in Valais to the Engadin resort area of Graubünden. It runs on tracks operated mainly by the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn and the Rhaetian Railway, crossing mountain passes and viaducts along the route.
Despite its name, the Glacier Express is not a high-speed train. The journey traditionally takes around eight hours, making it a panoramic sightseeing service rather than an express in the modern technical sense. Its route includes the Oberalp Pass and the Landwasser Viaduct.
The train is often confused with the Bernina Express. The Bernina Express connects Chur or St. Moritz with Tirano in Italy and follows the Bernina line, while the Glacier Express travels between Zermatt and St. Moritz.
