Which Tolkien language is most closely associated with the Grey-elves of Middle-earth?

The story behind the answer

Sindarin is the Tolkien language most closely associated with the Grey-elves of Middle-earth.

Tolkien called the language Sindarin, and its speakers were commonly known as the Sindar or Grey-elves. It developed from an earlier Elvish language and became the everyday Elvish speech of many peoples in Middle-earth during the Third Age.

Tolkien based much of Sindarin’s sound and structure on Welsh, one of the real-world languages that influenced his invented languages. Names such as Galadriel, Celeborn, and Minas Tirith contain Sindarin elements, although determining the language of every name can require specialized study.

Sindarin is often confused with Quenya. Quenya was an older, formal Elvish language associated especially with the High Elves and influenced by Finnish. Both languages belong to Tolkien’s Elvish linguistic family, but they have different histories and cultural roles.
