Which Tolkien-created language is spoken by the High Elves in The Lord of the Rings?

The story behind the answer

Quenya is the Tolkien-created language associated with the High Elves in The Lord of the Rings.

Tolkien developed Quenya as part of his elaborate history of Middle-earth’s languages. It is especially connected with the Eldar who lived in Valinor and with the Noldor, including figures such as Galadriel. Its sound and structure were influenced in part by languages Tolkien studied, particularly Finnish, but Quenya has its own grammar, vocabulary, and fictional history.

Quenya is often confused with Sindarin, another major Elvish language. Sindarin became the everyday Elvish language of many Elves in Middle-earth, while Quenya had a more formal, literary, or ceremonial role there. Khuzdul is the secret language of the Dwarves, and the Black Speech was created for the servants of Sauron. Tolkien’s linguistic invention came before much of his mythology: he built stories and histories around the languages he had devised.
