What is the name of the elf who becomes Aragorn’s wife in The Lord of the Rings?

The story behind the answer

Arwen is the elf who becomes Aragorn’s wife in The Lord of the Rings.

Arwen Undómiel is the daughter of Elrond and Celebrían and a descendant of important Elven and human lineages. She falls in love with Aragorn, whose royal identity and future role as king connect their personal story with the political restoration of Middle-earth. Their relationship parallels the earlier love of Beren and Lúthien, another union between a mortal human and an immortal elf.

Arwen chooses a mortal life so that she can marry Aragorn. They wed after Sauron’s defeat and Aragorn’s accession as King Elessar. Tolkien’s appendices provide much of the couple’s later history, including their family and Arwen’s death after Aragorn dies.

Arwen is sometimes confused with Éowyn because both are major women associated with Aragorn and the war against Sauron. Éowyn is a human shieldmaiden of Rohan, while Arwen is an elf of Rivendell.
