Which Tolkien character rides the horse named Shadowfax?

The story behind the answer

In J.R.R. Tolkien’s writings, Gandalf rides the horse named Shadowfax. Shadowfax is the greatest horse of Rohan and is described as exceptionally swift, intelligent, and difficult for others to master.

Gandalf receives Shadowfax during the events of The Lord of the Rings after the wizard seeks a mount in Rohan. The horse carries him over great distances, including the journey to Minas Tirith, and helps Gandalf arrive in time for major events in the War of the Ring.

Shadowfax belongs to the line of horses descended from Felaróf, the ancestor of the Mearas, the noble horses associated with the Rohirrim. Tolkien’s text presents Shadowfax as more than an ordinary riding animal: he understands speech, runs without tiring easily, and symbolizes the extraordinary partnership between Gandalf and Rohan.
