Frodo Baggins carries the One Ring from the Shire toward Mordor in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.
Frodo inherits the Ring from his uncle Bilbo, who originally found it in the Misty Mountains. After learning from Gandalf that the object is Sauron’s One Ring, Frodo accepts the task of taking it away from the Shire. The mission eventually leads him to Rivendell, through the Fellowship’s travels, and into Mordor.
Frodo is the Ring-bearer for most of the central story, but he does not make the journey alone. Samwise Gamgee becomes his closest companion, and other members of the Fellowship help protect the quest at different stages. Frodo’s role is distinct from Aragorn’s: Aragorn is the heir of Isildur and a principal military and political leader.
Bilbo remains important because he possessed the Ring first, but Frodo is the character who bears it during the main events of the trilogy.
