Which Titan is Pandora’s husband in Hesiod’s Greek mythology?

The story behind the answer

Epimetheus is Pandora’s husband in Hesiod’s Greek mythology. He is a Titan and the brother of Prometheus, whose name is associated with foresight. Epimetheus’s name is commonly connected with “afterthought” or hindsight, creating a deliberate contrast with his brother.

Zeus sends Pandora to Epimetheus after ordering her creation. Prometheus warns Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus, but Epimetheus eventually receives Pandora. In Hesiod’s story, Pandora then opens the container and releases the troubles that spread among humans.

Many modern summaries call Prometheus Pandora’s partner because Prometheus is the more famous Titan in related stories, especially the tale of stolen fire. That is a mix-up: Prometheus is Pandora’s brother-in-law, not her husband, in the standard Hesiodic account. The marriage also makes the myth’s family structure significant, since Zeus’s punishment reaches both the brothers and the human race through Pandora’s arrival.
