McDonald’s launched the worldwide slogan “I’m lovin’ it” in 2003.
The campaign marked a major shift toward a single global marketing platform. Rather than using completely different central slogans in different markets, McDonald’s promoted the same English-language phrase internationally, adapting executions and supporting material for local audiences. The slogan was written in a deliberately informal style, using “lovin’” without the final g.
The campaign is also associated with a pop-oriented jingle and music created for McDonald’s advertising. Justin Timberlake appeared in an early English-language recording connected with the campaign, while the phrase itself became the enduring brand line.
“I’m lovin’ it” is often confused with earlier McDonald’s slogans such as “You Deserve a Break Today,” which was used in the 1970s. The 2003 campaign did not replace the Golden Arches as the company’s visual symbol; it added a modern verbal identity to the established logo and restaurant branding.
