Which Thai province hosts the annual Phra Pradaeng Songkran Festival?
Answer
Samut Prakan
Answer
Samut Prakan
Samut Prakan hosts the annual Phra Pradaeng Songkran Festival.
Phra Pradaeng is a district and historic town in Samut Prakan Province, immediately south of Bangkok. Its Songkran celebration is strongly associated with the Mon community, whose heritage has shaped local customs, processions, traditional performances, and ceremonial activities.
The Phra Pradaeng festival is often held later than Thailand’s central Songkran dates. This timing reflects local tradition rather than a different national New Year. Events may include floral floats, cultural parades, community ceremonies, and water-related festivities.
A frequent mistake is identifying Phra Pradaeng with Bangkok because the area lies within the Bangkok metropolitan region and is easy to reach from the capital. Administratively, however, Phra Pradaeng is in Samut Prakan Province, not Bangkok. Samut Prakan is also home to major attractions such as the Ancient City and Erawan Museum.
