Which Texas college did Georgia O'Keeffe teach at from 1916 to 1918?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe taught at West Texas State Normal College from 1916 to 1918.

The institution was in Canyon, Texas, near the Palo Duro Canyon landscape. O'Keeffe taught art there after working at Columbia College in South Carolina and before relocating to New York in 1918. Her teaching years in Texas coincided with an important period of experimentation in abstraction.

West Texas also connected O'Keeffe with the expansive landscapes of the Texas Panhandle. Although her best-known Southwestern subjects came later in New Mexico, the Texas environment helped shape her interest in simplified forms, strong contours, and broad spaces.

The school later became West Texas A&M University. Its historical name is important because O'Keeffe's biography usually identifies her teaching post by the name used during her tenure, not by the university's modern name.
