Which Tesla factory is located in Fremont, California?

The story behind the answer

Tesla’s factory in Fremont, California, is officially known as the Tesla Fremont Factory.

The facility was originally built by General Motors and later operated by the NUMMI joint venture between General Motors and Toyota. Tesla acquired the plant in 2010 and began producing vehicles there, making it the company’s first major vehicle assembly site.

The Fremont factory has produced several important Tesla models, including the Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y. Its location in the San Francisco Bay Area also places it near Tesla’s early engineering and corporate operations.

It is often confused with Tesla’s Gigafactories, which manufacture batteries, vehicles, or both. Fremont is a vehicle assembly plant, while Tesla’s other factories have different production roles and names.
