Leonardo is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle who wears a blue mask and leads the team.
He is named after Leonardo da Vinci, the Italian Renaissance artist, engineer, and scientist. In the franchise’s standard character design, Leonardo uses two katana swords and is portrayed as disciplined, responsible, and committed to his brothers’ safety.
The mask colors help audiences distinguish the four turtles, especially because the original black-and-white comic did not provide color-based identification. Leonardo’s leadership role became especially prominent in animated series, films, toys, and video games.
The turtles’ personalities can vary between adaptations, so Leonardo is not always portrayed in exactly the same way. His blue mask and leadership position, however, are among the most consistent elements of the character. Raphael is usually associated with red, Donatello with purple, and Michelangelo with orange.
