What is the title of the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action film?

The story behind the answer

The first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action film is titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Released in 1990, the film used the franchise’s name without a subtitle. It brought the comic-book heroes to theaters through a blend of live actors, detailed sets, stunt work, and animatronic costumes from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.

The story follows Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo as they battle the Foot Clan and their leader, Shredder, while protecting April O’Neil and working with Casey Jones. The screenplay drew heavily from the darker tone of the original Mirage Comics series.

Later films used distinguishing subtitles or abbreviations. The 1991 sequel is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, while the 2007 computer-animated film is commonly called TMNT. The 2023 animated feature has the subtitle Mutant Mayhem.
