The victory came in the franchise's very first IPL season. In the final on 29 May 2022, played at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat defeated the Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets. Rajasthan scored 130 for 9, and Gujarat reached 133 for 3 in 18.1 overs.

Hardik Pandya captained Gujarat and produced an outstanding all-round performance, taking 3 wickets for 17 runs and scoring 34 runs. He was named Player of the Match. Shubman Gill finished the chase unbeaten on 45, while David Miller made 32 not out from 19 balls.

The result is sometimes confused with Chennai Super Kings, who were the defending champions after winning the 2021 season. Gujarat's title was especially notable because they became only the second team, after the 2008 Rajasthan Royals, to win the IPL in their debut season.
