Which team won the inaugural Rocket League Championship Series world final in 2016?

iBUYPOWER Cosmic won the inaugural Rocket League Championship Series world final in 2016.

The team defeated Northern Gaming 4–3 in the grand final of RLCS Season 1, held in Los Angeles. The roster featured Kronovi, Lachinio and OverZer0, three of the earliest stars of competitive Rocket League.

iBUYPOWER Cosmic represented North America, while Northern Gaming represented Europe. Their close final helped establish Rocket League as a major cross-region esport only a year after the game’s 2015 release. The series used the standard three-player competitive format, with teams contesting best-of-seven matches.

Readers sometimes confuse the inaugural RLCS champion with FlipSid3 Tactics, which won Season 2. The RLCS is also separate from smaller pre-RLCS events and from later Rocket League Championship Series seasons, whose champions included Gale Force Esports, Cloud9 and Team Vitality.
