Which country won the League of Legends event at the 2018 Asian Games?

The story behind the answer

South Korea won the League of Legends event at the 2018 Asian Games.

Esports appeared as a demonstration sport at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia. The League of Legends competition featured national teams rather than the usual club organizations from professional leagues. South Korea won the gold medal after defeating China in the final.

The South Korean roster included several major League of Legends stars, including Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, who was selected for the national team. China earned silver, while Chinese Taipei and Saudi Arabia were among the other participating teams.

Because esports was a demonstration sport in 2018, its medals did not count toward the official medal table in the same way as medals from full competitive events. Esports later became a medal sport at the 2022 Asian Games, held in 2023 after postponement.
