Which team won the 2026–27 Premier League season opener?

The story behind the answer

Arsenal won the 2026–27 Premier League season opener. The defending champions beat Coventry City 3–0 at Emirates Stadium on 21 August 2026.

Arsenal controlled the match from the opening stages and built a two-goal half-time lead. Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka scored before the interval, and Martin Ødegaard added a third goal early in the second half.

The victory was an ideal start for Mikel Arteta’s team after Arsenal had ended the previous campaign by winning their first English league title in 22 years. It also gave goalkeeper David Raya a clean sheet in the first match of the new defence.

Coventry’s defeat did not diminish the significance of their return to the Premier League. The Sky Blues had spent 25 years outside the top division, and their opening assignment was immediately against the reigning champions.
