Which team won the 1982 State of Origin series?

The story behind the answer

Queensland won the 1982 State of Origin series.

Queensland defeated New South Wales in the first State of Origin series, winning both matches played in 1982. The opening game took place at Lang Park in Brisbane, where Queensland won 20–10. The second match was also won by Queensland, giving the Maroons the inaugural series victory.

State of Origin selected players according to their state of origin rather than simply the state where they played club football. That principle created a stronger and more representative contest between Queensland and New South Wales. The series became one of Australian rugby league’s most important annual sporting events.

The 1982 competition is distinct from the 1980 match commonly described as the first State of Origin game. The 1980 fixture was a single experimental match; 1982 was the first official three-game-era series, although that inaugural series contained only two matches.
