Which team won the 1970 Stanley Cup, ending a 29-year championship drought?
Answer
Boston Bruins
Answer
Boston Bruins
The Boston Bruins won the 1970 Stanley Cup, ending a 29-year championship drought.
Boston defeated the St. Louis Blues in four games in the 1970 Stanley Cup Finals. Bobby Orr scored the famous overtime goal in Game 4, giving the Bruins a 4–3 victory and their first Stanley Cup championship since 1941.
Orr’s airborne celebration after the goal became one of the most recognizable images in hockey history. He was also awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoffs’ most valuable player. The Bruins had been one of the NHL’s traditional teams, but their long wait for another title had made the championship especially significant.
The 1970 final was St. Louis’s third consecutive Stanley Cup Finals appearance, and the Blues were swept in each of those series. Boston’s victory began a successful period that included another Stanley Cup in 1972.
