Which NHL player holds the single-game record of 10 points?

The story behind the answer

Darryl Sittler holds the NHL single-game record with 10 points, recorded for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1976.

Sittler scored five goals and added five assists in Toronto’s 11–4 victory over the Boston Bruins on February 7, 1976. His 10-point performance remains the highest total by one player in an NHL game. He also became the first player to score five goals and five assists in the same game.

The record came during one of Sittler’s strongest seasons. He finished 1975–76 with 41 goals and 80 assists for 121 points, setting a Maple Leafs single-season scoring record at the time. Sittler was the Toronto captain and played his entire NHL career with the club until a later trade to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Mario Lemieux came close with eight points in a 1988 game, and several players have recorded eight-point performances. None has matched Sittler’s combined total of five goals and five assists in one NHL contest.
