Which team won Hull City’s 2026–27 Premier League opener against Manchester United?

The story behind the answer

Hull City won their 2026–27 Premier League opener against Manchester United.

Hull defeated Manchester United 2–0 at the MKM Stadium on Saturday 22 August 2026. It was a landmark result for Hull because the club had just returned to the Premier League after a nine-year absence. Their promotion made them one of three newly promoted teams in the 2026–27 division.

Manchester United were the more established Premier League name, but Hull’s victory gave the promoted side an immediate boost. The result also made Hull the first of the newly promoted clubs to record a win in the opening round. Ipswich Town also won during the round, while Coventry City lost to Arsenal.

A common mix-up is to associate Hull’s opening-day victory with Leeds United, another northern club who also won away from home in the first round. Leeds beat Nottingham Forest 1–0, but that was a separate match. Hull’s fixture was played at home against Manchester United, and the scoreline was 2–0. Hull’s manager for the season was Sergej Jakirović, while Lewie Coyle was listed as club captain.
