Which team replaced Deccan Chargers in the IPL from the 2013 season?

The story behind the answer

Sunrisers Hyderabad replaced the Deccan Chargers in the IPL from the 2013 season.

The Deccan Chargers, Hyderabad’s original IPL franchise, were terminated after their owners failed to resolve prolonged financial and legal problems. The BCCI then invited bids for a replacement Hyderabad-based team. Sun TV Network won that bid in October 2012, and its new franchise was named Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Sunrisers retained several players from the Chargers’ squad but began with a new identity, ownership structure and management team. Kumar Sangakkara was initially appointed captain in 2013, while Cameron White later led the side for part of the season. The team finished fourth and reached the playoffs in its debut campaign.

A common mix-up is confusing the replacement with Pune Warriors India, which was already an IPL team in 2013 but represented Pune rather than Hyderabad. Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans entered the league much later, in 2022.
