Which Taylor Swift album first featured the song “August”?

Taylor Swift’s song “August” first appeared on the album Folklore. Released in 2020, Folklore is Swift’s eighth studio album and introduced the fictional world that connects several of its songs.

The album was created during the COVID-19 pandemic and was announced shortly before release. Swift described its writing as involving stories and characters that were not necessarily drawn directly from her own life.

“August” is one part of a three-song narrative often called the teenage love triangle. The related tracks are “Cardigan,” told from Betty’s perspective, and “Betty,” told from James’s perspective.

A common mix-up is placing “August” on Evermore, Folklore’s sister album released later in 2020. The song belongs to Folklore, while Evermore contains separate tracks such as “Willow” and “Champagne Problems.”
