TSMC became the first Asian company outside the energy sector to reach a $1 trillion market capitalization.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company crossed the milestone in July 2024 as investor enthusiasm for advanced chips and artificial-intelligence infrastructure lifted its share price. TSMC is the world’s leading dedicated semiconductor foundry, manufacturing chips designed by other companies rather than primarily selling processors under its own consumer brand.
Its customers include major designers of smartphone, computer, and AI processors. TSMC’s advanced manufacturing processes and enormous capital investment have made it a crucial link in the global technology supply chain.
The company’s achievement is separate from the much earlier trillion-dollar valuation of Saudi Aramco. It is also distinct from the market caps of chip designers such as Nvidia and Broadcom, which generally design products while relying on foundries for fabrication.
