Solna hosted the 1958 FIFA World Cup final.
The final of the 1958 FIFA World Cup was played at Råsunda Stadium in Solna, a municipality immediately north of central Stockholm. Brazil defeated Sweden 5–2 on 29 June 1958 to win its first World Cup title.
The match is remembered for the emergence of 17-year-old Pelé, who scored twice in the final. Vavá also scored twice for Brazil, while Mário Zagallo scored once. Sweden’s goals came from Nils Liedholm and Agne Simonsson.
Because Solna is part of the Stockholm urban area, the match is sometimes casually described as having taken place in Stockholm. The stadium, however, stood within Solna municipality. Råsunda Stadium was later demolished, and Friends Arena opened nearby in 2012. The 1958 tournament was the first World Cup held in Sweden.
