Which Studio Ghibli film is based on Ursula K. Le Guin’s Earthsea novels?

Tales from Earthsea is the Studio Ghibli film based on Ursula K. Le Guin’s Earthsea novels.

Directed by Gorō Miyazaki, the 2006 film draws mainly from characters and ideas in the Earthsea books, especially The Farthest Shore and Tehanu. Its setting includes the wizard Sparrowhawk, the young prince Arren, and a world threatened by an imbalance between life and death.

The adaptation was not a direct screen version of one single Earthsea novel. Ursula K. Le Guin initially resisted earlier adaptation approaches, and she later met Gorō Miyazaki during the film’s development. The film’s English title refers to the wider archipelago and fantasy world created by Le Guin.
