Which studio distributed The Godfather in 1972?
Answer
Paramount Pictures
Answer
Paramount Pictures
Paramount Pictures distributed The Godfather in 1972.
The film was produced by Albert S. Ruddy for Paramount Pictures and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Paramount acquired the film rights to Mario Puzo’s bestselling 1969 novel and backed the production despite concerns about its setting, violence, and initially modest budget.
The Godfather premiered in New York City on March 14, 1972, and received a wide release later that month. Its commercial and critical success became one of Paramount’s defining achievements and helped establish the modern gangster film as a major prestige genre.
The film’s distributor is sometimes confused with its production personnel. Robert Evans was Paramount’s head of production during the project, while Ruddy served as producer and Coppola directed. Paramount also distributed the two sequels, The Godfather Part II and The Godfather Part III.
