Which studio developed South Park: The Fractured but Whole?

The story behind the answer

Ubisoft San Francisco developed South Park: The Fractured but Whole. The 2017 role-playing game was published by Ubisoft in collaboration with South Park Digital Studios and continued the series’ partnership with creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

Ubisoft took development in-house after acquiring rights connected with South Park: The Stick of Truth following THQ’s bankruptcy. The sequel therefore moved away from Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind much of the earlier game’s development, to a nearly 100-person team at Ubisoft San Francisco.

Parker and Stone remained closely involved: they wrote the script, helped shape the design and story, and voiced many characters. Additional Ubisoft studios provided support, but Ubisoft San Francisco was the lead developer. Obsidian Entertainment is a common mix-up because it developed The Stick of Truth, not this sequel.
