Which studio developed Fortnite Festival?

The story behind the answer

Harmonix developed Fortnite Festival. The Boston-based studio brought its long experience in music games to Fortnite, designing the performance systems, song charts, instrument parts, and Jam Stage features.

Harmonix is best known for creating the original Guitar Hero and developing the Rock Band series. Its earlier work also includes Dance Central, Karaoke Revolution, Amplitude, and Fuser. That background explains why Fortnite Festival uses familiar rhythm-game ideas: players follow timed notes, build combos, choose difficulty levels, and perform guitar, bass, drums, or vocals.

Epic Games acquired Harmonix in November 2021. The studio then worked on musical experiences for Fortnite, culminating in Festival’s reveal during the Big Bang event on December 2, 2023, and its release on December 9. Epic published the game, but Harmonix is the developer. Psyonix, by contrast, developed Rocket Racing, while Respawn Entertainment and Mediatonic are associated with other game franchises rather than Fortnite Festival.
