Netflix released Beyoncé’s 2019 concert documentary Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé.
The film premiered on Netflix on April 17, 2019. It documents Beyoncé’s 2018 Coachella performances and combines concert footage with behind-the-scenes material about the preparation, rehearsals, musicians, dancers, and production team.
Homecoming focuses especially on the cultural meaning of Beyoncé’s performance, which drew on the traditions of historically Black colleges and universities. The stage presentation included marching-band arrangements, majorette-style choreography, a large ensemble, and songs from across her career.
The documentary was directed and written by Beyoncé and was accompanied by a live album titled Homecoming: The Live Album. It is distinct from a conventional tour film because it also presents the creative process and the performers’ extensive preparation.
