Which strait contains the Molloy Deep?

The Molloy Deep is contained within the Fram Strait. This Arctic passage lies between Greenland and Svalbard, connecting the Arctic Ocean with the wider world ocean.

Also called the Molloy Hole, the feature is a small, deep basin in the Greenland Sea. Its floor reaches approximately 5,550 metres, making it the deepest known point in the Arctic Ocean. The surrounding Fram Strait is much more than a geographic gap: it is the only deep-water connection through which major water masses move between the Arctic and Atlantic systems.

The name honours Arthur E. Molloy, a U.S. Navy research scientist associated with oceanographic work in the North Atlantic, North Pacific and Arctic. A common mix-up is to choose the Denmark or Davis Strait because both are Arctic-region passages, but neither contains the Molloy Deep. The Bering Strait is also important geographically, yet it is comparatively shallow and does not contain this basin.
