Which stock exchange lists Saudi Aramco, the energy company behind the record 2019 IPO?

The story behind the answer

Tadawul lists Saudi Aramco, the energy company behind the record 2019 IPO.

Tadawul is the principal stock exchange of Saudi Arabia, and Saudi Aramco began trading there after its initial public offering in December 2019. The exchange is based in Riyadh and is operated by the Saudi Exchange, while “Tadawul” is also commonly used for the Saudi stock market itself.

Saudi Aramco’s listing made the exchange a much more prominent part of global market-capitalization discussions. The company’s shares were assigned the ticker 2222, and its offering attracted major interest from Saudi and international investors.

Tadawul should not be confused with the Saudi company’s international operations or with the oil reserves owned by the Saudi state. Listing shares gives investors a traded ownership interest, while the government continued to own the overwhelming majority of Aramco after the IPO.
