Which stadium hosted the first IPL match in 2008?

The story behind the answer

The first IPL match in 2008 was hosted at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where Royal Challengers Bangalore faced Kolkata Knight Riders on 18 April 2008.

The inaugural match was a one-sided contest. Kolkata Knight Riders scored 222/3, powered by Brendon McCullum’s unbeaten 158, one of the most memorable innings in early IPL history. RCB were dismissed for 82, giving KKR a 140-run victory.

The stadium was then known as M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and served as the home ground of Royal Challengers Bangalore. It was one of eight venues used during the first IPL season, which featured eight teams and 59 matches.

A common mix-up is confusing the first match with the 2008 final, which was played at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium. Rajasthan Royals won that final against Chennai Super Kings.
