Veterans Stadium hosted the 1976 Major League Baseball All-Star Game as part of the Bicentennial observances.
The game took place in Philadelphia on July 13, 1976. The National League defeated the American League 7–1, and Cincinnati Reds outfielder George Foster was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.
Philadelphia was selected for several major sporting events because of its central role in American founding history. The city hosted the 1976 NBA All-Star Game, the NHL All-Star Game, the NCAA Final Four, and the MLB All-Star Game.
Veterans Stadium was home to the Philadelphia Phillies from 1971 through 2003. The 1976 game was the first MLB All-Star Game played at the stadium; it returned there in 1996.
