Which Spanish city hosted the first publication of Don Quixote Part Two?

The story behind the answer

Madrid hosted the first publication of Don Quixote Part Two.

Cervantes’s authentic continuation appeared in Madrid in 1615, again through the publishing network associated with Francisco de Robles. It followed the first part by about a decade and was printed after Cervantes responded to a spurious continuation published under the name Alonso Fernández de Avellaneda.

The sequel’s historical title was *Segunda parte del ingenioso caballero don Quixote de la Mancha*. Unlike Part One, which had been divided internally into four sections, this volume was presented as the genuine second part of the adventures. Its characters even know that the earlier book has circulated, making the novel unusually self-aware for its period.

Valencia, Seville, and Barcelona are plausible distractors because Don Quixote quickly spread through multiple Spanish printing centres. Editions appeared in Valencia and Barcelona soon afterward, and the work was also printed abroad. But those later editions should not be confused with the first publication of Cervantes’s Part Two, which was the Madrid edition of 1615.
