Sonic Youth's 1988 album often regarded as a landmark of alternative rock is Daydream Nation.
The double album was recorded in New York with producer Nicholas Sansano and was released by Enigma Records. Its extended songs, unusual guitar tunings, feedback, and experimental structures connected underground noise rock with a wider alternative audience.
Daydream Nation includes “Teen Age Riot,” “Silver Rocket,” and “Candle.” “Teen Age Riot” became one of Sonic Youth's best-known songs and opens the album's first side in its original vinyl configuration.
The record was Sonic Youth's final album for Enigma. The band moved to DGC Records afterward, where it released Goo in 1990. That later album was more commercially visible, but Daydream Nation is generally considered the band's defining artistic statement.
