Sonic and the Secret Rings is the Sonic game set in a world inspired by the Arabian Nights. Released for the Wii in 2007, it follows Sonic after he falls asleep while reading the book and is summoned into its pages by Shahra, the Genie of the Ring.

The adventure takes place in a fantastical version of the book’s world. Sonic encounters characters modeled on Arabian Nights figures: Tails appears as Ali Baba, Knuckles as Sinbad the Sailor, and Doctor Eggman as Shahryār. The villain is Erazor Djinn, who wants to erase the Arabian Nights and reshape its stories.

The game was built around Wii Remote controls and a forward-moving style of play. It also introduced experience points, unlockable abilities, and the World Rings, which represent emotions such as rage, sadness, and hatred. Sonic can use them to become Darkspine Sonic.

Sonic and the Secret Rings is often confused with Sonic and the Black Knight. Both belong to the Sonic Storybook series, but Black Knight draws on Arthurian legend rather than Arabian Nights.
