Which songwriter also played live drums on Taylor Swift’s “august”?

Jack Antonoff was the songwriter who also played live drums on Taylor Swift’s “august.”

Antonoff co-wrote the song with Swift and is credited with production, recording, live drums, percussion, programming, electric guitar, and acoustic guitar. His instrumental work helped build the track’s shimmering, layered sound.

The song’s creative process began with Antonoff producing an instrumental and sending it to Swift. She then wrote the lyrics and melody, reportedly responding intuitively to the music. This workflow differed from the more traditional approach in which a lyric and melody are developed before a full arrangement.

Joe Alwyn is credited as a producer, while Bobby Hawk played strings and Evan Smith contributed saxophones, flute, electric guitar, and keyboards. These separate credits explain why several collaborators are associated with the track, but Antonoff is the one who combines songwriting with the live-drums credit.
