Which song spent 19 weeks at No. 1, the longest reign in Billboard Hot 100 history?

“Old Town Road” spent 19 weeks at No. 1, the longest reign in Billboard Hot 100 history.

The song was recorded by Lil Nas X and became a global hit after gaining attention on TikTok. A remix featuring Billy Ray Cyrus helped broaden its audience and is the version most closely associated with its record-setting chart run. It began its 19-week reign in April 2019.

The track blended country imagery with hip-hop production, creating debate about genre classification when Billboard removed it from its country chart. That controversy increased public attention but did not prevent its success on the all-genre Hot 100.

Before “Old Town Road,” the record had been held by “One Sweet Day” and later shared by “Despacito,” each with 16 weeks at No. 1. The 19-week total is therefore a Hot 100 record, not merely a record for rap or country-influenced music.
