Which song plays over the opening credits of Pixar’s Cars?

“Real Gone” plays over the opening credits of Pixar’s Cars.

The song was written and performed by Sheryl Crow for the film’s soundtrack. Its energetic rock sound accompanies the opening race and introduces the competitive world of Lightning McQueen before the story moves to the road trip that leads him to Radiator Springs.

Cars uses several other prominent songs, which can make soundtrack questions easy to mix up. Rascal Flatts recorded “Life Is a Highway,” a major song associated with the film and its end credits. James Taylor performed “Our Town,” while Chuck Berry’s “Route 66” also appears in the soundtrack.

“Real Gone” is therefore distinct from the best-known cover of “Life Is a Highway.” The soundtrack also includes original score music by Randy Newman, who wrote the film’s main musical themes and songs such as “Our Town.”
