Which song gave Los del Río their only Billboard Hot 100 No. 1, reaching the summit in 1996?

The Bayside Boys mix of Los del Río’s “Macarena” gave the Spanish duo its only Billboard Hot 100 No. 1, reaching the summit in 1996.

Los del Río originally released “Macarena” in 1993. The version that became a worldwide phenomenon was a substantially reworked remix by the Bayside Boys, which added English lyrics and a dance-pop arrangement while retaining the Spanish chorus.

The song topped the Hot 100 for 14 weeks and became closely associated with its choreographed group dance. It was especially prominent at weddings, sporting events, parties, and international celebrations during the 1990s.

The title is often shortened to “Macarena,” but the chart-making recording is specifically the Bayside Boys mix. The song was performed by Los del Río, a duo from Spain, rather than by the remix producers themselves.
