“Let It Go” from Frozen won the 2014 Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, “Let It Go” is performed in the film by Idina Menzel as Elsa. The sequence shows Elsa leaving Arendelle, constructing an ice palace, and embracing the power she had previously tried to conceal.
The song became both a major commercial success and a defining piece of Disney animation. It also won the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media and the Golden Globe for Best Original Song.
The film includes a separate pop version performed by Demi Lovato over the end credits. That version helped broaden the song’s reach, but Menzel’s rendition is the one integrated into the story and associated with Elsa’s transformation.
