Which song from Disney’s 1967 film The Jungle Book was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song?

“The Bare Necessities” was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song from Disney’s 1967 film The Jungle Book.

The nomination recognized the song written by Terry Gilkyson and performed in the film by Baloo and Mowgli. It was the only song from The Jungle Book nominated in that Oscar category.

At the 40th Academy Awards, the award went to “Talk to the Animals” from Doctor Dolittle, written by Leslie Bricusse. Therefore, The Bare Necessities was an Oscar nominee rather than an Oscar winner.

The nomination helped establish the song’s lasting reputation, but it is often mixed up with “I Wan’na Be Like You,” another famous number from the same film. That song was written by the Sherman Brothers and performed by King Louie.
