Which song did the Sherman Brothers write for Disney’s 1976 Bicentennial parade America on Parade?

The story behind the answer

The Sherman Brothers wrote “The Glorious Fourth” for Disney’s 1976 Bicentennial parade America on Parade.

Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman wrote the song in 1974 for the approaching American Bicentennial. It became part of the soundtrack for America on Parade, a patriotic production staged at Disneyland and Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.

The parade celebrated American history and culture while also marking Disneyland’s 20th anniversary and the Magic Kingdom’s fifth anniversary. It included themed floats, performers, synchronized music, and nightly fireworks during portions of its run.

“The Glorious Fourth” is sometimes confused with “Stars and Stripes Forever,” John Philip Sousa’s 1896 march, which was not written for the Disney bicentennial production. The Sherman Brothers were already known for Disney songs from films including Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book.
