“Willow” closed Taylor Swift’s “Cardigan–august–Willow” Grammy medley in 2021.
Swift performed the sequence at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards on March 14, 2021. She began with “Cardigan,” continued with “august,” and ended with “Willow.” The first two songs came from Folklore, while “Willow” came from Evermore, the companion album Swift released later in 2020.
The staging emphasized continuity between the two albums. Swift performed in and around a cottage, using the setting to evoke the woodland and cottagecore imagery often associated with the Folklore era. Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner accompanied her during the performance.
Because the song is strongly associated with the annual August trend, some listeners remember its solo identity more readily than its place in the medley. It was the middle performance, while “Willow” provided the closing transition into Evermore’s world.
