James Taylor’s song “Our Town” plays over the end credits of Pixar’s Cars.
The song was written and recorded by Randy Newman for the film’s soundtrack, and James Taylor performs the version used over the closing credits. Its reflective mood suits the film’s themes of memory, community, and the decline and renewal of Radiator Springs.
“Our Town” is distinct from the other prominent songs associated with Cars. “Real Gone,” performed by Sheryl Crow, appears earlier in the soundtrack, while Rascal Flatts recorded “Life Is a Highway” for the film. “Route 66” is also connected with the movie’s road-trip setting, but it is not the end-credit song performed by Taylor.
The soundtrack combines original score material by Newman with licensed and newly recorded songs. Newman also wrote the film’s main songs and received major recognition for the music, helping establish Cars as one of Pixar’s most music-focused features.
