James Taylor's “Our Town” plays during the closing credits of Pixar's Cars.
The song appears on the Cars soundtrack and was written by Randy Newman, who also composed the film's score and several other songs. Taylor performs the end-credit version, giving the film a reflective musical conclusion after Lightning McQueen's transformation.
“Our Town” matches the story's focus on community, memory, and the changing fortunes of Radiator Springs. Its placement contrasts with the energetic racing songs heard earlier and reinforces the idea that the town, rather than the race track, has become central to McQueen's life.
The Cars soundtrack includes other recognizable tracks, including “Life Is a Highway,” performed by Rascal Flatts, and “Real Gone,” performed by Sheryl Crow. “Route 66” is associated with the film's road-trip atmosphere, but it is not the James Taylor closing-credits song.
